Delvera, the biggest kids party venue in Stellenbosch

I’ve been wanting to write this post for the last couple of weeks, but just could not find the time. The reason I was so excited to start working on this post was that I believe that there are not many options for hosting a kids party in Stellenbosch (apart from having a party at Spur). And now with winter on our doorstep it is even harder to find that perfect indoors venue for kiddies parties. This is why I was so excited to discover that Delvera hosts a variety of kids parties come rain or shine.

Delvera is located just outside Stellenbosch on the R44 to Klapmuts. I have always appreciated the fact that Delvera really tries to cater for kids. We recently popped in there for a coffee at their Simonsberg Cafe while driving around. Delvera is one place that does not call itself a “farm” or “wine estate” but prefer to be known as the “outdoor village in the vineyards” according to their slogan. Coffee at the Simonsberg Café can be taken inside or outside while kids play on the jungle gym next to the stoep. In order to keep an eye on them you will find it better to sit outside but with winter approaching fast it was quite chilly and we opted for inside. You can probably relate to what I am going to say next: Kids do not sit still! Not at home, not in the car and especially not in public spaces. So after playing with the ice cubes in the Cream Soda glass until that became very boring we ventured outside to explore everything Delvera has to offer. We stumbled onto two kiddies parties that were taking place at that moment.

The first one was a boys-only go-kart party. This is a brilliant party idea for winter as everything takes place under roof. The party was definitely a hit for the boys who were having a ball of a time driving around and chasing each other on the go-kart track. Next to the track some of them was jumping on a jumping castle. I suspect that some girls will have just as much fun as they were having! The moms were sitting at the one end of the venue and having a tea party themselves. When I enquired later the Delvera staff told me that they do cater for the grown ups attending the kids parties as well with pre-ordered platters. Cakes and kids party packs can also be ordered or brought in by yourself.

The second party that was going on was a boys-and-girls’ boot camp party. Instructors were playing all sorts of outdoor games with the kids. Kind of like gladiator meets boere sports. It seemed that the party started out on the BMX race track where the moms were still sitting under the verandah in the shade chatting up a storm and looking like they were enjoying themselves just as much as the children.

Apart from parties like the ones I described above you can also organise other parties at Delvera that include activities like:

  • Face-painting
  • Pottery
  • BMX race track
