Its all bicycles and all family at RideIn, Jonkershoek

playground

Last month we featured a great café in Jonkershoek for the family and this month we return to Jonkershoek to showcase yet another family favourite: RideIn Cafe.  OK, so I was supposed to write a series on family venues in Jonkershoek which wasn’t finished by the time last month’s articles were published… Sorry, but you’re just going to have to go back to Jonkershoek this month to visit this beautiful little café.

RideIn is situated on a flower farm at the foot of the Jonkershoek mountains which should already give you an idea of the beauty of its setting.  Originally opened as a stopover/ start/ finish  for cyclists cycling in Jonkershoek, RideIn Café caters for every cycling-need you can think of: Jugs of water with ice to quench cyclists’ thirst, showering facilities, bike washing facilities and even some spare parts for sale.  But it is for none of these amenities that I visit the cafe… Obviously, as I do not even own a bicycle!! :) It is simply because I love the Hazz coffee, food and snacks, I adore the peaceful setting and mountain view and the café offers a jungle gym to keep my kids busy.

If you’re like me and not exactly a cycle enthusiast so to speak, do not let all the bicycle amenities put you off.  If you do fancy a bicycle ride in the country, then RideIn will be like heaven to you.  RideIn is a very trendy and modern venue where you can relax, kick off your shoes and do so in style. If I still haven’t won you over take note that they stock both Hazz coffee and Icecream Community’s artisan ice cream if you are a fan.

Now for the family part… The playground has a slide and swings, a smallish sandpit in a tyre and a nice stretch of lawn. I suspect if you bring along some balls the kids can play quite a decent soccer match here. Take a look at the playground:

Do take the time to check out their lunch specials during the week which often include a main dish, coffee (or even smoothie in Summer) and dessert for around R70-R80 (2014 prices). Lunch specials may be viewed on Facebook or Twitter.  RideIn also hosts baby showers, kids parties and other functions.

Go to RideIn to have lunch, breakfast or tea, to let the kids play and above all, to breathe in the peace.

Child-friendly notes:
